“In a world where truth is considered to be relative and where the masses are encouraged or even strong-armed into accepting everyone’s “truth” as valid, I often wonder if logic can still be used to persuade people. Personal feelings and ideologies often trump facts in the marketplace of ideas. Many people have become conditioned to accept the nonsensical in the name of pluralism and political correctness.
However, for the sincere truth-seeker, logic still serves its intended purpose. Facts are real and concrete. Truth is not relative, and our God-given ability to think logically is still one of the key things that separates us from the animals. Deep in our gut is a compass that points to true north despite the loud and deceptive voices of culture.”

The Problem of Plenty, and the Problem of None
If you are like me and many English speaking Christians, every morning you receive several daily devotionals. Some come as emails, others as notifications from your apps. And those are just the devotionals. If you want to find a Bible study in any topic you can choose from countless apps that give you access to thousands of studies written by the churches you know, the pastors you love, or the ministries you follow. And if you want to deepen your faith you can find literally tens of thousands of books online that will help you do just that. The difficulty we English speaking Christians face when we want to grow closer to Christ is that we have such an extreme abundance of resources that it is quite a task to choose from them. Now imagine that ALL of those resources were – let’s say – in French … NOT in English. If you wanted to hear or read about Christ, all you had was materials in French. … Even if you took some French in high school or college, how much more difficult it would be to discover Jesus, to grow closer to Him, to feed your soul? … THIS IS EXCTLY what people in most European countries face.
When the World Feels Like…
When the world feels like a beehive that someone kicked into…
When we see hundreds of thousands dying from a disease…
When we realize that several competing powers are trying to use this to dominate the world…
When the News pushes violence, hatred, destruction in front of our eyes…
When our family becomes a battleground of clashing political views…
When we fall into a deep, dark well of uncertainty and find hopelessness at the bottom…
The one thing we can know for sure is that STILL God is in control!
I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.
Psalm 40:1-3
I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me; he freed me from all my fears.
Psalm 34:4
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7
He will wipe away all tears from their eyes. There will be no more death, no more grief or crying or pain. The old things have disappeared.
Revelation 21:4
But those who trust in the Lord for help will find their strength renewed. They will rise on wings like eagles; they will run and not get weary; they will walk and not grow weak.
Isaiah 40:31
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. – John 14:27

First Big Video Project
WE GOT PERMISSION from our old church in Pittsburgh, The Bible Chapel, to translate and re-post parts of a great sermon series titled Relevant Faith. It discusses topics such as: absolute truth, the existence of God, reliability of the Bible, Jesus as the only way, suffering, evil, eternity, heaven and hell.
This is our first project capturing English audio, translating it and creating subtitles in Hungarian, so it won’t be without challenges, but it’s really exciting!!!

Remembering my Mom Tonight…
I wish I could tell her again that I love her.
How much she missed me in her last years! How lonely and sad she was after she lost my Dad. She became a bitter person, angry at the whole world. I called her 2-3 times a week but couldn’t REALLY be there for her. My heart split into two but I couldn’t split myself between my life in the US and taking care of her in Hungary.
So I called her as often as I could and we talked. We laughed for long minutes when she told me how she didn’t even try to get up from the floor after tripping and falling. She just stayed there “resting” knowing that she had about 2 hours before the neighbor came over for coffee. So she just laid there picking up and sorting her pills that rolled away when she dropped her pill case with the week’s medications. We cried together when she kept retelling the story of my Dad’s death in the ICU. How she whispered into his ears thanking him the life they had together and how a tear drop rolled out of my Dad’s closed eyes. I also cried with her when she told me her greatest fear, that nobody will be there to hold her hand in her last moments because I was so far.
I cried then and I’m crying now as I remember, even though I now know that Jesus was there to hold her hand. I know because I was also there trying to hold her hand, but she pushed my hands away. She was looking into the distance with joy and wonder in her eyes and kept reaching toward His hands that only she could see. Three weeks before she passed she finally said yes to Jesus! He took the scales off her eyes and from that moment she knew that everything was going to be all right. Despite the awful circumstances I found her in that awful hospital her anger and bitterness was gone. She had joy. The kind of joy that only Jesus can give. Joy that surpasses all understanding. … And so I know that one day I WILL be able to tell her again how much I love her.
What is Sin?
Do you get irritated, or uncomfortable when you hear the word: “sin”? How about it this way then: “Sin disrupts the harmonies God created in this universe and then it resists God restoring those harmonies. It destroys the harmony between us and our creator. It destroys the harmony between us and others, it destroys the harmony between humanity and creation and it destroys the intended harmony within our own souls. …
When we deny sin, it leaves us spiritually tone-deaf. When you can’t recognize the wrong notes in the universe you can’t recognize the right notes in the universe, and the music of God’s truth whistles right through… and you don’t even detect it. “

Spring “Mission-Impossible”
TWO MONTHS AGO, in February we were still happily preparing for our Spring mission trip to Hungary. We were supposed to board our flight to Warsaw and from there to Budapest on April 1st. We have been preparing for this trip for several months, corresponding with Hungarian churches, setting up meetings, selecting and translating Gospel Tracts, comparing quotes from Hungarian printers, excitedly planning outreach events, and so on.
But since then, our entire world has changed. Flights got cancelled, countries are closed, entire economies are shut down to the very essentials. Healthcare systems and hospitals got overwhelmed with the seriously sick, and morgues and funeral homes became filled beyond capacity with those who didn’t win the fight.
As we are watching the ever-darkening cloud of this pandemic covering every country on the Globe, we have to make peace with the fact that we can’t go to Hungary this spring.
Until things get back to normal, we are using our time and energies to translate as many resources as we can and grow our online library of freely reproducible Christian resources in Hungarian. This will also make a greater assortment of materials available for us to print for the time we will be allowed to travel again.
A Year of Great Changes
Change is often scary and most of us only agree to it if we absolutely need to. When we started to see that the Lord was closing the door on our ministry in the barrios, our natural reaction was resistance and doubt. “Are we getting this right? … After blessing our mission so wonderfully by bringing us so many kids eager to hear our DAILY bible studies and showing such growth in their character, why would He all of a sudden allow the enemy to win our battles? … He knows that our hearts are committed to serving Him in ministry. If not this, then WHAT does He want us to do? … Our original call into missions was to build His Kingdom in Hungary. He kept growing the fire in our hearts for it … but … HOW could we do that now?” It seemed to be impossible.
Csaba and I, we both have the nature of not wanting to leave anything unfinished. Not getting clear answers to the above questions, (… or perhaps not wanting to hear His answers), we still kept pushing our increasingly rusty wheelbarrow uphill. Since we questioned our vision for our ongoing ministry, we completely abandoned support-raising and found ourselves with dwindling funds. While praying for guidance, direction and provision from the Lord, we took matters into our own hands. Csaba started a hard, physical job early mornings so he could still continue serving the kids in the afternoons in one of the barrios. He again was burning the candle on both ends and knew that he wasn’t doing the Lord’s will. I took a full-time job that paid really well but ended up being my life’s most horrible experience that literally put me out of commission. I spent a few months recovering from a serious health problem as we continued praying for direction, pleading with God for His wisdom. He gave clear, detailed instructions to so many before us about what to do and how. We desperately needed His answer.
Then it came. Like it has always been clear to us both, it was there outshining everything else in our minds. Our original call: to take on the deep spiritual darkness we have seen every time we were on short term missions in Hungary, the dark, ever thickening clouds of evil that was covering all of Europe. Almost like instructions to Noah, all of a sudden, we had detailed plans how to reach masses of people for Christ first in Hungary then as He leads in other countries of Europe. Our WHAT and HOW was finally answered! The time of our real deployment arrived.
We always felt that our first assignment in the barrios was kind of a “missionary bootcamp”. The Lord had to put us through many lessons:
– We had to learn to recognize and fend off the attacks of the enemy – the ones that hit us straight in the face and also the ones that came disguised as heartfelt advice from friends. The ones that were so painful and obvious like a knife being turned in our hearts, and the ones that presented themselves as great opportunities to do something other than ministry. And even the ones that appeared as whispers in our own voice in our head.
– When the task looked impossible, we had to learn not to give up in fear that our own strength and abilities won’t be enough, but to know that His power will handle it no matter what.
– One of the lessons He had to put us through several times before we got it was that we will never be true missionaries unless we learned to trust Him for provisions. Taking matters into our own hands, trusting paychecks and bank accounts for our security is a very natural human need, but it is not His way for His workers. This is probably the hardest one for missionaries because the bills keep coming but we often see no “paycheck”. And the enemy is always right there to say: “It will never work! How long can you live without health insurance, or not knowing if your bills are covered? Give up the ministry and just get a job!”
But we learned our lesson. We know that the Lord wants us to trust that HE will provide, even if we don’t know how. He WILL provide through those who love Him and who live for building His Kingdom. If that is you already, we want you to know that you will be reaching masses of people with us for Christ. If you aren’t a part of our team yet, then please look at our Vision Tree listing our efforts and pray if the Holy Spirit wants you to become a part of this mission.
May the Lord bless you with His loving kindness in the upcoming year!
